The Hippies And The Troublemakers' Are Taking Over

Not sure whether to laugh or cry. As a former 'freak-flag-flying proud-to-be-called hippie', and as a teacher for nearly 40 years, I'm so offended by this I don't know where to start! How in the hell do these people get elected!

Louie Gohmert: 'The Hippies And The Troublemakers' Are Taking Over

SUBMITTED BY Miranda Blue on Wednesday, 4/20/2016 10:39 am

Earlier this year, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, attributed the popularity of Sen. Bernie Sanders to the fact that “we let some of the hippies from the ‘60s” start “teaching the teachers” in universities.

Gohmert brought up the subject again in an interview Monday with Armed America Radio’s Mark Walters, where he explained that “a lot of the hippies and the troublemakers from the ‘60s and the early ‘70s” figured out that instead of “blowing up the Pentagon or blowing up police cars,” they could just become teachers.

This means, he said, “that the socialists that wanted to destroy the country in the ‘60s and ‘70s have figured out you just miseducate the kids and you’re well on your way to taking over the country.”

It’s thanks to these same teachers, he said, that “people have heard over and over how horrible guns are.”

A hippie teacher for 40 years and you disagree with him? Shouldn't you feel victorious?

Wasn't the whole idea of the counter culture to replace the f'd up mess we have now? He's finally seeing the writing on the wall, from his own myopic perspective.

Well, ya, but the counter culture really didn't work, did it? Maybe then, but now? I'm thinking you were being a little facetious?

Lots of the old hippies sold out, ya gotta eat ya know..  But if they didn't  win a little we wouldn't be here now.. Remember they just plain started to shoot an kill us. you guys are too young to remember Kent State..  Columbus riots,  George Town,,,,and a few other ones, people just came up missing. Now they just want to lock you up, or make money off of your supposed crimes.. You just have to keep the faith, and i bet lots of your parents were hippy burn outs.. lol ask my daughter the accountant.. reverse rebellion.. :)  But she is pro MJ, so i did something right.. :)

Not at all. Society is more polarized than I ever remember.

They may not recognize themselves as "counter culture" but there are two very different points of view as to what we as a nation should become.

One side agrees with the good congressman and wants to return to the good ol' segregated, God fearing, lockstep nation of the 1950's.

The other side wants a society that includes everyone and does not fear change.

I believe that education is responsible for the latter. Just as it brought mankind out of the dark ages before, it can do it again.

I do believe that academia was influenced by the social movements of the 60's. They had the opportunity to freely discuss ideas and taught those that they found worthwhile.

These are the ones that are so feared. Nothing scarier than bringing challenging ideas to light. (They must be witches!)
