Scientists didn't connect the Zika virus, discovered in 1947, to microcephaly until last fall when Brazil reported an increase in the birth defect.

so this virus has been around since 1947 and only NOW we find it causes microcephaly in great numbers, and only in one country, not any neighboring countries?

19. Has a Zika outbreak outside Brazil ever been linked to microcephaly?

Officials in French Polynesia have suspicions about an outbreak two years ago.

French Polynesia is the only area outside Brazil to be affected by a Zika outbreak in which public health officials have identified an increase in the number of fetuses and babies with unusually small heads. There is “very high suspicion” of a link between the Zika virus and microcephaly in French Polynesia, said Dr. Didier Musso, an infectious disease specialist at the archipelago’s Institut Louis Malardé – though he said additional research was needed.

In November, French Polynesian officials took another look at an outbreak of the Zika virus that lasted from October 2013 to April 2014. They reported finding an unusual increase – from around one case annually to 17 cases in 2014-15 – of unborn babies developing “central nervous system malformations,” a classification that includes microcephaly.

There were no investigations at the time to determine whether the mothers were infected with the Zika virus during pregnancy. Four of the mothers were tested later, and the results indicated they may have been infected. Additional research is underway, Dr. Musso said.

the news reports denying the pesticide and brazil-only claims say there were an uptick of cases in french polynesia. the uptick was (a total of) 17 cases. not the huge 4908+ microcephaly cases currently in brazil.

Brazil says Zika-linked microcephaly cases stable at 4,908

17 cases vs 4908 microcephaly cases. yeah something is up. but in brazil only.

venezuela has 5100 zika cases, and no microcephaly cases except possibly one.

The reproductive toxicity of pyriproxyfen in rats has been investigated in a two-

generation study, a study involving treatment of males and females before and in the

early stages of gestation (segment 1) and a study of treatment during the prenatal and

lactation periods (segment 3). The NOAEL for maternal toxicity was 1000 mg/kg,

equivalent to 98 mg/kg of body weight per day, in the two-generation study and 100

mg/kg of body weight per day in the segment 3 study. Reproductive toxicity was

observed only in the segment 3 study, in which there was an increased number of

stillbirths in the F0 generation and a reduction in the number of implantations and in

the mean number of live fetuses in the F1 generation at 500 mg/kg of body weight per

day. The NOAEL for reproductive toxicity was 300 mg/kg of body weight per day.

Recent media reports have suggested that a pesticide called pyriproxyfen might be linked with microcephaly. Pyriproxyfen has been approved for the control of disease-carrying mosquitoes by the World Health Organization. Pyriproxyfen is a registered pesticide in Brazil and other countries, it has been used for decades, and it has not been linked with microcephaly. In addition, exposure to pyriproxyfen would not explain recent study results showing the presence of Zika virus in the brains of babies born with microcephaly.

the cdc says because the zika is in the baby, that means zika caused the microcephaly. brilliant science there. would be nice if they tested the babies for pyriproxyfen... nor has cdc released data on non-microcephaly babies born that tested positive for zika

http://www.who.int/emergencies/zika-virus/articles/rumours/en/

There is no evidence that Zika virus disease or microcephaly in Brazil is caused by genetically modified mosquitoes. Only genetically modified male mosquitoes are released, so there is no risk of disease transmission to humans because only females bite humans. The genes of male mosquitoes are modified causing future offspring to die. This practice is designed to control mosquito populations.

read the above paragraph very carefully. WHO says "no risk of disease transmission to humans because females bite humans" , what disease is in the male gm mosquitos??? or else this paragraph was written by someone who cant english?

There is no vaccine or treatment for Zika, which causes mild fever and rash.

why did they make GM mosquitos to fight a virus which causes "mild fever and rash" ? yellow fever, malaria, dengue etc are way more deadly.... why use this on zika specifically?

http://www.nature.com/nbt/journal/v29/n1/full/nbt0111-9a.html

did you know that the GMO mosquitos arent perfect and dont reach 100% dead offspring? 15% of gmo mosquito offspring survive.

the GMO mosquitos are reproducing at lower rates than other mosquitos. the above paper mentions either 100:1 or 500:1 rates required to reduce mosquito breeding.

In one large

trial in a successful control program, no significant induced sterility

was observed until sterile/wild ratios reached 100:1 or higher 32 , with

peak values of P around 70% requiring release ratios ~500:1 or higher;

C = 0.0001–0.001 was estimated for this trial 31

Larvicides such as pyriproxyfen are often used in containers where people store water to kill the mosquito in its larval stage. When people drink water from containers that have been treated with pyriproxyfen, they are exposed to the larvicide – but in tiny amounts that do not harm their health. Moreover, 90% - 95% of any larvicide ingested is excreted into the urine within 48 hours. This product has been used since the late-1990s without being linked to microcephaly.

the paper from the New England Complex Systems Institute say pyriproxyfen has never been tested in human drinking water before.

Florida to begin aerial spraying of insecticides to control Zika

http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/metiram-propoxur/naled-ext.html

Naled is moderately to highly toxic by ingestion, inhalation and dermal adsorption. Vapors or fumes of naled are corrosive to the mucous membranes lining the mouth, throat and lungs, and inhalation may cause severe irritation

The organophosphate insecticides are cholinesterase inhibitors. They are highly toxic by all routes of exposure. When inhaled, the first effects are usually respiratory and may include bloody or runny nose, coughing, chest discomfort, difficult or short breath, and wheezing due to constriction or excess fluid in the bronchial tubes. Skin contact with organophosphates may cause localized sweating and involuntary muscle contractions. Eye contact will cause pain, bleeding, tears, pupil constriction, and blurred vision. Following exposure by any route, other systemic effects may begin within a few minutes or be delayed for up to 12 hours. These may include pallor, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headache, dizziness, eye pain, blurred vision, constriction or dilation of the eye pupils, tears, salivation, sweating, and confusion. Severe poisoning will affect the central nervous system, producing incoordination, slurred speech, loss of reflexes, weakness, fatigue, involuntary muscle contractions, twitching, tremors of the tongue or eyelids, and eventually paralysis of the body extremities and the respiratory muscles. In severe cases there may also be involuntary defecation or urination, psychosis, irregular heart beats, unconsciousness, convulsions and coma. Death may be caused by respiratory failure or cardiac arrest

However, despite repetitive applications, populations of the primary vector of EEE virus, Cs. melanura, have increased 15-fold at Cicero Swamp. Preventive applications had no noticeable impact on the enzootic amplification of EEE virus, and isolations of virus following preventive applications have resulted in additional spraying. The possibility that applications of naled contributed to increased populations of Cs. melanura discredits the rationale that preventive applications of naled reduce the risk of EEE.

But in Colombia, a recent study of nearly 12,000 pregnant women infected with Zika found zero microcephaly cases. If Zika is to blame for microcephaly, where are the missing cases?

The large-scale use of pyriproxyfen in Brazil

and its coincidental timing with an increase in micro-

cephaly cases should provide additional motivation. We

believe that this evidence is strong enough to warrant

an immediate cessation of pyriproxyfen application to

Brazilian water supplies until additional research can be

carried out on its neurodevelopmental toxicity. Where in-

secticides are considered essential, Bt toxin is considered

a safe alternative that has been used in water systems

in Recife since 2002 [58].

there. something messed up is going on if columbia and venezuela have zika but no microcephaly.

Remember, it's important for you to be afraid of something at all times. Then the next step is to look to the government for help and guidance.

Don't worry if the new terror doesn't scare you, a new one will be introduced every few months. If bird flu or gay marriage don't instill paranoia they'll dredge up a century old disease that has never been a problem before and use that to get you to come running to the leaders of our Glorious Homeland for deliverance, comrade.

More than 3 million bees killed by aerial spraying for Zika in South Carolina

A local beekeeper says she got no notice from officials

(CNN) — The pictures are heartbreaking: Millions of honeybees lie dead after being sprayed with an insecticide targeting Zika-carrying mosquitoes.

"On Saturday, it was total energy, millions of bees foraging, pollinating, making honey for winter," beekeeper Juanita Stanley said. "Today, it stinks of death. Maggots and other insects are feeding on the honey and the baby bees who are still in the hives. It's heartbreaking."

Fw: Please stop spraying us with Dibrom/NALED!

FYI.

Thanks.

Subject:Please stop spraying us with Dibrom/NALED!

Dear Sarasota County,

Please stop poisoning your citizens with Naled. Last Friday night, Sept. 9, 2016, I heard planes flying over our house four times around 11:30pm. I immediately checked the Sarasota County mosquito control website and sure enough, our house was being sprayed with adulticide Dibrom with Naled. The next morning, my 11 year old woke up vomiting. She has only vomited one other time in her life, five years prior.

Parents from Osceola County are developing a class action lawsuit against their county with parents' reports of children vomiting after Naled spraying. Over 200 Miami residents shut down their city commission meeting and demonstrate daily in protest of Naled spraying.1 Pay attention! Please stop.

Jack Housenger, director of the EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs told the Associated Press, “If aerial applications are occurring ... don't let your kids out to play."2 Well unless you are daily monitoring the County Mosquito maps which are only posted after noon and taken down within 12 hours, you would have no way of knowing when and where they are spraying. I guarantee the majority of our town does not even know they were sprayed with Naled! Please stop.

Naled is a known neurotoxin. It has been banned in the European Union. Zika is not a threat to us! In over 80% of cases, people experience no symptoms and the remaining percentage experience mild symptoms like that of a cold. The New England Journal of Medicine reported in 12,000 pregnant women with Zika in Brazil, there were ZERO cases of microcephaly.3 Please stop.

More recent reports indicate pesticides are to blame for the increase in microcephaly cases in Brazil last year. Officials in Puerto Rico, an area allegedly heavily hit with Zika, stated Naled is dangerous for pregnant women and could result in their babies developing behavioral issues.4 Meaning – there is no public health crisis except that being created by heavy pesticide spraying. Please stop.

Recent aerial spraying of Naled in South Carolina killed over 2.5 million honeybees. This morning, I found a dead honeybee on my front doorstep littered among the dead mosquito bodies. I already swept one round of dead mosquito carcasses and one week later, our porch is still being blanketed with dead bugs. Please stop.

The 2001 theory of 'anything that has the potential to hurt us should automatically be wiped off the planet' has not been a successful strategy, nor beneficial to anyone or anything. Please stop spraying us with Naled. In fact, please just stop spraying us with pesticides altogether.

Truly,

this should tell you something is not right. this article was back in february apparently, i never saw it until now...

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/new-link-between-zika-virus-and-microcephaly-is-found-in-brazil/

As of Wednesday, Brazil’s health authorities had logged 4,783 cases of suspected microcephaly since the outbreak began. The majority of those are likely false positives: All babies with a head circumference of less than 32 centimeters are flagged as a suspected case, but many are born with small heads for other reasons. Of the 1,313 cases the government has investigated so far, 404 were confirmed to have microcephaly. The diagnosis was rejected in the remaining cases.

the number of babies with microcephaly has been GREATLY EXAGGERATED

https://www.wired.com/2016/11/florida-votes-release-millions-zika-fighting-mosquitos/

On Tuesday night, Zika’s fate was on the ballot. A Florida Keys county elected to have British biotech company Oxitec release millions of genetically modified mosquitoes to combat the virus.

According to Oxitec, of the engineered mosquitoes to be released, .03 percent will be females—it’s pretty hard to separate out millions of mosquitos by sex. So, in theory, some of these GMs could bite someone (only females are blood-suckers).

remember that WHO article i posted earlier? said there were no female genetically modified mosquitos? yeah, that was a making whoopee lie! here they are, GM mosquitos with something to make mosquitos infertile. hope it doesnt accidentially make humans infertile too huh?
