The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office will be receiving $342,189 in state funding to help assist its Narcotics Enforcement Team.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing is providing the funding for the 2017 Michigan Medical Marihuana Operation and Oversight Grant Program.

The Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team is a multi-jurisdictional task force which is designed to integrate federal and local law enforcement agencies for the purpose of identifying, investigating, and prosecuting violators of state and federal narcotic laws.

Oakland County will issue agreements to reimburse partial overtime for marijuana investigations to the local units of government that are part of the Sheriff Office’s Narcotics Enforcement Team.

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners will have to formally approve the grant at its 7 p.m. Wednesday meeting, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac.

The funding period is Jan. 1, 2017 through Sept. 12, 2017.

BACKGROUND

• In 1971 participating law enforcement agencies in Oakland County, in conjunction with the Michigan State Police, formed an inter-agency task force known as the Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team.

• The primary goal of the Narcotics Enforcement Team has been to eliminate or reduce controlled substance trafficking in Oakland County through investigations leading to the identification, apprehension, prosecution and conviction of controlled substance dealers.

• In January 2001, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office assumed lead agency responsibilities as the Michigan State Police opted out of the program.

THE SENTRY OFFERS THE SAME LEVEL OF PROTECTIVE HEAD COVERAGE AS THE US ARMY ACH/ECH WITH IMPROVED INTEROPERABILITY BETWEEN COMMUNICATION HEADSETS, VISORS, AND ACCESSORIES FOR MANDIBLE PROTECTION. IT ALSO PROVIDES BETTER HEARING LOCALIZATION AND ATTENUATION THAN THE ACH WITH A MODIFIED EAR AREA SHAPE, AND IS COMPATIBLE WITH ARC RAIL MOUNTED COMMS AND HEARING PROTECTION DEVICES.

NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE TO PRIVATE BUYERS.

This is one of things that has driven me crazy.

General marihuana enforcement".

The law specifically says it has to be used for 'medical marihuana enforcement" and "education", and any funds not used for such must be returned.

General drug law investigations is not enforcing the MMMAct. Period.

I think it is illegal to use the funding for anything but mmj.

But, that is a double edged sword issue as well.

Hopefully the Medical marihuana fund will be seeing its last money stolen from it for these grants after next years budget.
