New Electric Kanna Karnival Event Seeks To Normalize Medical Marijuana

Recommended Posts

VIENNA TWP, MI - A new festival at Auto City Speedway will bring a carnival atmosphere and organizers hope an acceptance of medical marijuana usage.

The two-day Electric Kanna Karnival runs from Saturday, May 13 through Sunday, May 14 at the speedway, 10205 North Saginaw Road, in Vienna Township.

"This is going to be a first event," said Tony Butler, the event's organizer. "This is actually the first of its kind anywhere in the world."

Having done work as a band manager and concert photography, Butler said the idea for the carnival came three or four years ago.

"It was time for me to take a break from that and I moved in to the medical marijuana field," he said after having a child and hoping to be home more often.

Butler has helped organize the High Times events at the speedway and built his own brand -- Oasis Medical Seeds.

In putting together the new gathering, Butler said "I don't want to have a marijuana oriented event. I wanted to have marijuana friendly event."

Carnival rides such as bumper cars, giant swing and games are part of the gathering, as well as a lengthy musical lineup on both days including DJ Lethal who has worked with Limp Bizkit and House of Pain, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus, The Werks, Tunde Olarian, and Lyric Da Queen.

Participants can camp out on each day of the event, including early birds on Friday for which a special party will be held.

There will also be medicating areas for those with their medical marijuana cards, as well as a doctor on hand to provide certifications and recertification, Butler said.

"We are just doing this to let people know medical marijuana, it doesn't have to be separated. We can do this and we all have to be adults. That's why we made it an 18 over event," he commented. "There's no reason a guy drinking a beer can't be right next to a guy smoking a joint."

The event is open to those 18 years of age and older. Tickets are $30 at the door. Camping is $100 for the entire weekend. The carnival will run until midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

Those seeking additional information about the event can head to the Electric Kanna Karnival Facebook page or the Auto City Speedway website at autocityspeedway.com.
